Scientists have warned that a diet packed with copper-rich foods – from
red meat to shellfish – could trigger Alzheimer’s. New research reveals the metal is a key factor in the development of dementia. It can prevent toxic proteins clearing in the brain and speed up their accumulation. Researcher Dr Rashid Deane said: “It is clear that these effects are due to exposure over a long period. The key will be striking the right balance between too little and too much copper consumption.”
