A new study by Rutgers University in New Jersey has shown that women who upped their tomato intake made more of a hormone thought to protect against breast cancer. Just one glass of tomato juice a day would contain the right amount of the lycopene, the plant chemical believed to be behind the effects.

Probiotics are live bacteria which, when consumed, help to replenish the vital
bacteria in your gut. Their beneficial effects are not wholly proven, although there is some evidence they can help with wide range of health problems, including diarrhoea and food allergies.

Increasingly, studies are providing evidence that the bacteria in the gut may 'communicate' with the brain, improving mental health and behaviour in conditions such as anxiety, and possibly even autism and Asperger's syndrome.

Women who do 3+ hours of exercise a week reduce their chance of developing Type 2 diabetes by an amazing 30-40 per cent. Even those who exercise only an hour a week cut the risk by 13 per cent, the joint US-Danish study discovered. Experts at the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston and the University of Southern Denmark studied the effects of weekly time spent performing resistance exercises, lower intensity muscular conditioning such as yoga, stretching, toning, and moderate and vigorous aerobic activity.

Drinking coffee keeps you just as hydrated as water, according to new research. Dr Sophie Killer, a nutritionist at Birmingham University, said: “We found a moderate intake of coffee, caused no significant difference compared to the consumption of equal amounts of water.”

HAVE YOU NOTICED YOUR eyesight deteriorating? Maybe you suffer with blurry vision or have difficulty adjusting to very bright conditions?

If so, you could be suffering from macular degeneration which affects people over the age of 60 but can also develop in those in their forties and fifties.

Age-related macular degeneration (also known as AMD) is a progressive condition which affects a small part of the retina at the back of your eye called the macula. The resulting problems of AMD include distorted or blurry central vision, sensitivity to light and may affect one or both eyes. The impact it has on...

DON’T LET ANYONE tell you that losing your hair is just another part of growing older.

How many times have you heard ‘if anyone’s bald in your family you’ve got no chance of keeping your hair!’ The good news is you can do something about it.

Scientists have found that baldness is caused a hormone called Dihydrotestosterone, or DHT. This hormone shrinks your hair follicles so they are no longer able to produce hair strong enough to either begin to grow or remain in your scalp for any length of time.

A breakthrough formula called Minoxamax® has been pioneered which can actually switch...

The constant trips to the loo, especially at night – feeling like you’re bursting to go to the toilet, even when you’ve just been. Not to mention the humiliation and complications that can result from getting medical help.

But research has shown that certain natural extracts can be incredibly effective at treating and even reducing an enlarged prostate.
